The work of the hairdresser and the removal of unwanted hair
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 19068 )
Q: Some women go to women’s salons where there is a hairdresser, and this worker shaves the woman’s unwanted hair, including the hair of the major private parts, especially on the night of her wedding. The hairdresser also plucks the facial hair and attaches hair to the head for those who wish to do so. What is the ruling of the Shari'ah regarding this work? Guide us and explain the ruling to us; may Allah reward you.
A: Plucking the eyebrows, which is the removal of eyebrow hair, and attaching hair, which is attaching hair to the head with other hair, are both major sins. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the one who does either of them or does one of them. It is not permissible to expose the private parts except to the husband. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Mu'minun 23:5-6] , and whoever guards the private parts, it is obligatory to cover them and forbidden to look at them except for those whom Allah has made permissible for him, or in case of dire necessity for treatment that cannot be done without exposing them.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
