Opening beauty salons
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 16965 )
Q: I have opened a beauty salon for women, and I bear witness to Allah that I have not plucked eyebrows, nor joined hair, not even with dyes. However, now I adorn both hijab-wearing and unveiled brides. Some sisters said that adorning the unveiled bride is forbidden. I am, my brother, in torment of conscience and fear of Allah. I went to some brothers in Farskor; some said: This is forbidden, and you must adorn the hijab-wearing bride. Others said: It is not forbidden, because you are adorning the bride for her husband.
A: Opening salons for (beauty) work for women is not permissible; due to what it leads to in terms of extravagance and waste, and the occurrence of things whose outcome is not praiseworthy, which corrupt morals and lead to imitating the disbelievers. As for if the woman is unveiled and displaying her adornment in front of non-mahram men, this is an increase in sin, and committing what Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) have forbidden. So you must seek alternative work, and Allah knows best.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
