The sixth question of Fatwa No. ( 20769 )
Q6: A brother is suffering from problems in his family home. His family is poor, so they were forced to rent one of the rooms in the house to a man and his wife, who are newly married. The problem is that the wife is tabarruj (displaying her adornment), such that her thighs and neck are visible. Our brother in Allah is still unmarried, and he collides with her in the bathroom or at the door. How should he act? He also asks about the position of a student of knowledge in this regard. He also asks you, O Shaykh: Does he have the right to forbid what is wrong inside the house? For example: smearing out pictures, breaking statues, and preventing his family members from using the television to watch movies and series.
A6: It is not permissible for unrelated men and women to mix in one house; because of the fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) and the many harms to chastity
and morals that result from it. If any of this occurs, it is obligatory to forbid this munkar (what is wrong) to the extent of one's ability, through advice and appropriate methods. If the advisor is heeded, praise be to Allah; otherwise, let him leave the place where sins and munkar (what is wrong) are committed,[At-Talaq 65:2] . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
