Is it permissible for women to mix with men in the pursuit of seeking knowledge? And does a mother sin if she prevents her daughter from going to school because of the mixing?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : So, when you ask me about women learning, what kind of knowledge do you mean?

The questioner: I mean regarding the issue of mixing?

The Shaykh : Ah, you see that you did not ask the question well.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : If you had asked, "Is it permissible for women to mix with men?"

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : In the pursuit of seeking knowledge?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : I would tell you it is not permissible, even if the knowledge were religious.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : So how much more so if the knowledge today, as I think you know, contains this and that.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : So the answer is that it is not permissible.

The questioner : It is not permissible.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner: Does that mean the mother does not sin if, for example, she prevents her daughter from going to a school where there is mixing?

The Shaykh : Yes, that is so; she has the right to do that.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : And beware of that.
