Performing 'Umrah before Hajj
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The eleventh question of the fatwa number ( 6542 )
Q11: What is the ruling on one who performs 'Umrah before Hajj, even though the first is a recommended practice?
A11: The correct opinion among the scholars is that 'Umrah is obligatory; based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Baqarah 2:196] , and the hadiths that have been reported regarding this. If a Muslim performs it before Hajj in the months of Hajj, and then performs Hajj in that same year, he is one who combines 'Umrah with Hajj (mutamatti'), and this is better than performing Hajj alone (ifrad) or combining them in one state of ihram (qiran) for one who has not brought sacrificial animals; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the Farewell Pilgrimage to his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) who had not brought sacrificial animals: Sahih al-Bukhari 7229 .
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
Q11: What is the ruling on one who performs 'Umrah before Hajj, even though the first is a recommended practice?
A11: The correct opinion among the scholars is that 'Umrah is obligatory; based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And complete the Hajj and 'umrah for Allah
وَأَتِمُّوا الْحَجَّ وَالْعُمْرَةَ لِلَّهِI would not have driven the Hadi with me and would have finished the state of Ihram along with the people when they finished it.
اجعلوها عمرة، ولو استقبلت من أمري ما استدبرت ما سقت الهدي، ولجعلتها عمرةAnd success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
