The Greater Pilgrimage

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of fatwa number ( 6519 )
Q1: What is the meaning of: the Day of the Greater Pilgrimage and the Greater Pilgrimage? Do they have the same meaning, or does one differ from the other? And is each of them mentioned in the Noble Qur'an and the authentic Sunnah?
Volume 1: The Day of the Greatest Pilgrimage is the Day of Sacrifice. Abu Dawud narrated from Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both),
That the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood on the Day of Sacrifice during the Hajj he performed and said: "What day is this?" They said: "The Day of Sacrifice." He said: "This is the Day of the Greater Pilgrimage."أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وقف يوم النحر في الحجة التي حج فيها فقال: أي يوم هذا؟ فقالوا: يوم النحر، فقال: هذا يوم الحج الأكبر
and al-Bukhari narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:
Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) sent me among those who would announce on the Day of Sacrifice in Mina: "No polytheist shall perform Hajj after this year, and no one shall circumambulate the House naked."بعثني أبو بكر الصديق رضي الله عنه فيمن يؤذن يوم النحر بمنى: لا يحج بعد العام مشرك، ولا يطوف بالبيت عريان
. The Day of Sacrifice is called the Day of the Greatest Pilgrimage because of the standing at 'Arafah on its night, the staying at al-Mash'ar al-Haram, the stoning of the pillars during its day, the sacrifice, the shaving, the circumambulation, and the walking between al-Safa and al-Marwah, which are among the acts of Hajj. The Day of the Pilgrimage is the time, and the Greatest Pilgrimage is the act performed within it. The mention of the Day of the Greatest Pilgrimage has come in the Qur'an; Allah the Exalted said:
And [it is] an announcement from Allah and His Messenger to the people on the day of the greater pilgrimageوَأَذَانٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ إِلَى النَّاسِ يَوْمَ الْحَجِّ الأَكْبَرِ
[At-Tawbah 9:3]
. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
