The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 3301 )
Q4: I was entrusted with one-third of a deceased person's wealth, and this entire third consisted of sheep. The years passed, and they perished, and some were slaughtered. What is obligatory upon me?
A4: If the situation is as you described, and their perishing was not due to your negligence in caring for them, then you are only liable for the value of those that were slaughtered without a valid legal justification. However, if they perished due to your negligence and lack of care, you are liable for their entire value. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
