The Distance for Shortening Prayer While Traveling

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 7652 )
Q2: At what distance in kilometers is it obligatory to break the fast, and what if one fasted and did not break it?
A2: Some scholars permitted shortening the four-unit prayer and breaking the fast during the day of Ramadan in any journey, and the majority of scholars defined the distance as approximately eighty kilometers. If one fasts during a journey where breaking the fast is prescribed, his fast is valid based on the evidence indicating this, and there is no blame on him, except if fasting harms him, in which case it becomes more emphasized for him to break the fast; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
It is not righteousness that you fast on a journey.ليس من البر الصوم في السفر
Sahih al-Bukhari 1946
.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
