How is dutifulness to parents after their death, and what are the righteous deeds that are obligatory for a child toward his parents after their death?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : How is dutifulness to parents after their death, and what are the righteous deeds that are obligatory for a child toward his parents after their death?

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and I send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
Dutifulness to parents consists of abundant kindness to them in wealth and body, in word and deed. Allah the Exalted placed the rank of this duty after the rank of His right and the right of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him):
Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good وَاعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ وَلا تُشْرِكُوا بِهِ شَيْئًا وَبِالْوَالِدَيْنِ إِحْسَانًا
[An-Nisa 4:36]
,
And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment وَقَضَى رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوا إِلَّا إِيَّاهُ وَبِالْوَالِدَيْنِ إِحْسَانًا
[Al-Isra 17:23]
,
And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents
[Luqman 31:14]
. Thus, dutifulness in life is through spending wealth, serving them with one’s body, softness of speech, and defending them, their honor, their wealth, and their persons. It is tied to everything people call dutifulness. As for their dutifulness after their death, it includes: making supplication for them, seeking forgiveness for them, maintaining ties with relatives who have no connection to you except through them, and honoring their friends. All of this is part of dutifulness to them after their death. As for giving charity on their behalf, it is part of dutifulness, but other forms of dutifulness, such as supplication, are better and more complete. A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: “O Messenger of Allah, my mother died suddenly, and if she had been able to speak, she would have given charity. Should I give charity on her behalf?” He said:
Yes نعم
. Sa'd ibn 'Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) sought the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) opinion on making his date grove, which yields fruit, a charity for his mother, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted him. If you wish to be dutiful to your parents after their death, increase your supplication for them, maintain the family ties through which you are connected to them, and honor their friends.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
