Taking a known quantity of wheat for the purpose of planting and then returning it in the same weight

Fatwa number 117491
Q: I am informing you that I am one of the farmers, and there are times when I need
some grains from the people of the village where I reside, because that type is not available to me. In this case, I tell him: "This amount of wheat, for example, that I took, I will return it when I have planted and harvested, that is, after the reaping." We agree on this, and as you know, may Allah preserve you, that this takes a long time, not less than three months. Recently, some learned brothers came and said: "This transaction is not permissible in the Shari'ah." But I am not convinced by his words, because the custom has been established in this manner. My question is: Is it permissible for me to take a quantity of wheat or other grain by a known weight or a known measure, for the purpose of planting, and due to my pressing need for it, and when I have planted and harvested, I return it to its owner in the same weight or measure?

A: If the matter is as you described, and it is in the nature of a loan, then there is no harm in that. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
