The seventh question of the fatwa number ( 12228 )
Q7: I am a student studying in the city of Jeddah , and I reside in al-Qunfudhah , which is 350 km away from it. During Thursday and Friday, I go to al-Qunfudhah . The question is: Is it in the Sunnah, given my residence in al-Qunfudhah , that I shorten the prayer, or what? And if I want to perform 'Umrah from Jeddah , is this permissible?
A7 : If you initiate the 'Umrah from Jeddah , you enter the state of ihram from Jeddah . If you intend it while you are in al-Qunfudhah , you enter the state of ihram from the miqat of the people of Yemen . You are not allowed to shorten the prayer in your country, because it is your homeland; rather, you must pray four rak'ahs. Likewise, in Jeddah , you must pray four rak'ahs according to the majority of scholars, because you intend to stay for more than four days. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
