Fatwa No. ( 5821 )
Q: I have a wife and many children, nine in total, including an adult daughter and a son, while the rest range in age from twelve to nine years old, and among them are young children from seven years old to eight months old. I would like to take them all to Makkah al-Mukarramah for 'Umrah in the month of Ramadan, if Allah wills, and I also wish to perform Hajj, just my wife and I. So, is it obligatory for me
Hajj for all the children, considering that they have performed 'Umrah, or not? Please note that my financial capacity is limited and I cannot take them all for Hajj. I also ask for your guidance on the Miqat for the people of the South via the coastal route, and whether it is permissible for me to enter the state of Ihram from Jeddah , as my route is along the coast. May Allah guide everyone to what is good and right.
A : First: It is not obligatory for you to take your children, whose ages you mentioned in the question, for Hajj, even if they had previously entered Makkah for 'Umrah, except for the daughter who has reached puberty, for whom it is obligatory to enter the state of Ihram for Hajj with you where you enter it. Second: The Miqat for the people of Yemen who come via the coastal route is Yalamlam , which is today called al-Sa'diyyah, so it is not permissible for anyone who passes by it or is opposite it, intending Hajj or 'Umrah, to pass it without entering the state of Ihram. Jeddah is not a Miqat for them, but rather it is a Miqat for its residents and for one who intends Hajj or 'Umrah while residing there, or for one who arrives there without the intention of Hajj or 'Umrah and then resolves to perform Hajj. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
