Fasting the Day of 'Ashura

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 10962 )
Q: What is obligatory for a Muslim to do on the Day of 'Ashura, and is zakat al-fitr obligatory on it?
A: It is prescribed for the Muslim to fast on the Day of 'Ashura; for it is established that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded the fasting of 'Ashura. When Ramadan became obligatory, whoever wished fasted and whoever wished broke the fast. There is no zakat al-fitr for the Day of 'Ashura as there is for 'Id al-Fitr after the month of Ramadan. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
