Is fasting a day after Ashura prescribed, or is there a hadith establishing it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Your Eminence, what do you say about fasting a day after Ashura? The prescribed practice is to fast before it. Is fasting after Ashura prescribed, or is there an authentic hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding it?

The Shaykh : Yes, in *Musnad al-Imam Ahmad*
Abu Hurairah, narrated that The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “None of you should fast on Friday, unless he fasts together with the day before or the day after.” Agreed upon. صوموا يوما قبله أو يوما بعده خالفوا اليهود
Bulugh al-Maram 5:41
and in another wording
Or a day after it أو يوم بعده
. Differing from the Jews is achieved either by fasting the ninth day, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
If I live till the next (year), I would definitely observe fast on the 9th لئن بقيت إلى قابل لأصومن التاسع
Sahih Muslim 1134b
meaning along with the tenth, or by fasting a day after it, because the Jews singled out the tenth day. Thus, you differ from them by fasting a day before it or a day after it. Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned in *Zad al-Ma'ad* that fasting Ashura has three types: either fasting the tenth day alone, or with the ninth, or fasting all three days. Fasting the three days also has a benefit, which is obtaining the reward of fasting three days of the month. Yes.
