Fatwa number ( 10688 )
Q: We have relatives, and among them is a man and his wife who work in a shop called: ( the hairdresser ). Then his wife passed away, and the man continued working as a beautician for women’s hair. They often invite us to lunch or dinner, and we go and eat from their food. I ask Your Eminence the Shaykh to please inform us: Is it forbidden or permissible for us to eat from their money? And is the man’s work forbidden or permissible? Knowing that he is not skilled in anything else. I also ask for advice for them and for us.
A: If the work of the relative you mentioned is as you described, then his work is forbidden, and his earnings are forbidden. It is obligatory for the one who does that to take up another profession to avoid the forbidden, and the doors of earning are many, praise be to Allah,
[At-Talaq 65:2-3] , and it is better for the Muslim to protect himself and stay away from sources of trial to preserve his honor and his religion. Allah will make ease for him in his affair. It is not permissible for a relative or friend, for example, who visits them to eat from their food or drink from what they own if they have no income except from that work. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
