Returning the amount to the thief from whom it fell
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 12842 )
Q3: One night, a man broke into my house, and I did not know what he wanted. So I chased him and hit him with an axe in my hand. He fell, and an amount of money, approximately 2000 riyals, fell out of his pocket. That man fled, and I know him. Is it permissible for me to take this amount as retribution for what he did and his aggression against my house? Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you with good.
A3: It is obligatory for you to return the amount to its owner. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
