The second question of Fatwa No. ( 1474 )
Q2: Is it permissible to offer the 'Id sacrifice on behalf of a deceased person?
A2: The Muslims are in agreement on its being prescribed in principle, and it is permissible to offer the sacrifice on behalf of a deceased person; due to the generality of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Riyad as-Salihin 1383 , narrated by Muslim and Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi and al-Nasa'i and al-Bukhari in
al-Adab al-Mufrad from Abu Hurayrah , and slaughtering the sacrifice on his behalf is a form of ongoing charity; because of the benefit that results from it for the one who offers it, the deceased, and others. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased).
إذا مات ابن آدم انقطع عمله إلا من ثلاث: صدقة جارية، أو علم ينتفع به، أو ولد صالح يدعو لهal-Adab al-Mufrad from Abu Hurayrah , and slaughtering the sacrifice on his behalf is a form of ongoing charity; because of the benefit that results from it for the one who offers it, the deceased, and others.
