Visiting the Prophet's Mosque: Is there a farewell?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 6854 )
Q: Please advise us—may Allah reward you with the best reward and recompense—regarding 'Umrah other than Hajj; does it require a farewell tawaf or not? Since I performed 'Umrah three times other than Hajj and did not perform a farewell tawaf, and I am relying on the book of Shaykh Ibn Jar Allah, may Allah forgive him and his parents and the Muslims, which mentions
The obligations and pillars of 'Umrah are mentioned, but a farewell is not mentioned. Some people have told me that there is a farewell for 'Umrah. Also, regarding the visit to the Prophet's Mosque and sending peace upon the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), is there a farewell by sending peace upon the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)? This is because the printed versions of the supplications mention a farewell to the mosque and sending peace upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

A: First: There is no farewell tawaf required for one who performs 'Umrah other than Hajj, and accordingly, there is nothing required of you in leaving Makkah after 'Umrah without performing the farewell tawaf, and if you perform the farewell tawaf, that is better. Second: Visiting the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is a recommended practice; due to the generality of the evidence encouraging the visiting of graves, but without making a special journey for that purpose. One who is in al-Madinah or its outskirts, whose movement to al-Madinah is not considered travel, may visit it. As for traveling to al-Madinah to visit his grave, it is not permissible; due to his (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibition of that, as he said:
Do not set out on a journey (for religious devotion) but for the three mosques-for this mosque of mine (at Medina) the Sacred Mosque (at Mecca), and the Mosque al-Aqsa (Bait al-Maqdis)لا تشد الرحال إلا إلى ثلاثة مساجد: مسجدي هذا، والمسجد الحرام، والمسجد الأقصى
Sahih Muslim 827d
, so if one travels to al-Madinah for a need such as trade, seeking knowledge, or the like, or travels there to pray in al-Masjid al-Nabawi desiring the multiplication of reward, he should first pray, then visit the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with the prescribed visit, so he prays and sends blessings upon him, and sends greetings to Abu Bakr and 'Umar , and may Allah be pleased with them both, and he prays for them, without touching the grave or what surrounds it or kissing anything of it, and without calling upon him or seeking aid from him, for his supplication and seeking aid from him after
his death (peace and blessings be upon him) is like calling upon other deceased people, and that is major shirk (associating partners with Allah). Rather, one should suffice with praying and sending peace upon him and expressing satisfaction with Abu Bakr and 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
