Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He says: Your Eminence, I have a shop for sewing abayas, and I have attached to my question four models of French or Moroccan abaya sleeves that have become popular with many women, especially schoolgirls, the first model: lace sleeve, -The Shaykh : What kind of sleeve? - Lace sleeve, he says: The first model: lace sleeve, the second model: a different type of lace sleeve.

The Shaykh : Who has strong eyesight? A wide, delicate lace sleeve.

The questioner : The third model: chiffon on velvet.

The Shaykh : There is no power or might except in Allah. This is delicate and a bit long.

The questioner : He says: The fourth model: sleeve embroidered with leather. He says: I ask your Excellency to clarify their ruling and guide me and my brothers who own shops in such models that keep changing until we cannot keep up with them?

The Shaykh : Yes, there is no doubt that the more covered a woman is, the closer she is to the Sunnah, to modesty, and to the shyness that is a characteristic of the believer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Modesty is part of faith الحياء من الإيمان
These clothes with sleeves, the abayas with sleeves, have a danger even before they are embroidered, which is that they reveal the woman's body, because they will be placed on her shoulders and her head will remain exposed and her neck exposed, and we do not know what she covers her head with afterwards; it may be an embroidered head covering, or it may be a niqab that is actually a face mask, not a niqab. Therefore, first: I advise our daughters, sisters, aunts, and female cousins to avoid wearing these abayas, and as for those who bring them in, I advise them as well.
