Q7: Is the prayer of two people considered congregational, or not? And what is required of one who prayed and then remembered that he had not performed ablution?
A7: First: The prayer of two people or more is congregational, but the greater the number, the greater the virtue. Nevertheless, it is obligatory to perform the prayer in congregation in the mosque. Second: One who prayed and then remembered that he had not performed ablution must repeat the prayer with purity; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih Muslim 225 It is agreed upon as authentic, and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1Sahih (Darussalam) Narrated by Muslim in his Sahih. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

Hammam b. Munabbih who is the brother of Wahb b. Munabbih said: This is what has been transmitted to us by Abu Huraira from Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and then narrated a hadith out of them and observed that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The prayer of none amongst you would be accepted in a state of impurity until he performs ablution.
