The third question of Fatwa No. ( 580 )
Praise be to Allah alone. After that, the Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed the inquiry sent by the honorable judge of the Badr al-Janoub Court. The third question stated: What His Honor mentioned regarding the prevailing custom that the head of the group comes to the zakah collectors, and he knows his group and the livestock they possess, so he pays the zakah of his group in cash and then returns to his group with what he paid. He asks about the validity of this action?

A3: It is not hidden that zakah is one of the pillars of Islam and that it is a type of worship. It is also not hidden that the intention to perform the worship is a condition for its validity. Therefore, this chief should not act in this manner on behalf of his group except for those who have appointed him to do so, knowing that the zakah collectors have instructions from the one in authority that they are obligated to follow. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
