Disbursing zakah to the hospital’s charitable fund

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 2571 )
Q: Attached for your Excellency is a copy of a letter from King Faisal Specialist Hospital regarding their request for assistance for the charitable fund located in the hospital, which is dedicated to helping the needy and poor who are unable to bear the costs of treatment and accommodation within the city of Riyadh , specifically for sick patients and their companions who come from all over the Kingdom . Do you see, your Excellency, that it is permissible to disburse zakah to this fund? We ask for your guidance. May Allah reward you with good, and make all our deeds sincere for His noble Face.
A : We do not see it as permissible to pay zakah to such a fund; because the beneficiaries of it do not fall under the categories of zakah specified in the Shari'ah, in a manner that is reliable and reassuring.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
