Zakat on the funds of the charity box
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 1184 )
Q2: A group of people gathered in a house to study the Noble Qur'an, and they agreed that each of them would pay ten riyals monthly to be spent on charitable works. If a lunar year passes over the money in the box and it reaches the nisab, is zakat obligatory on it or not? And what is the zakat on the one thousand paper notes we have today?
J2: If a group of people places money in a box to be spent on acts of charity, on the condition that nothing of it returns to any one of them, then there is no zakah on it; because it has left their ownership by being paid into the charity box, and its specific items have become the right of the charitable organizations to which it was paid for spending in them. As for the zakah on the thousand paper notes in our hands today, it is a quarter of a tenth, which is 25 riyals (twenty-five riyals). The ruling on these paper notes regarding zakah is the same as the ruling on gold and silver. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
