Q: We would like to clarify with Your Eminence the issue of spending zakah funds to purchase various food items and specific goods such as blankets and clothing, and distributing them to certain poor Islamic organizations, such as Sudan and Africa , and the Afghan mujahideen, particularly in cases where food items are not available at reasonable prices in those countries, or are almost completely absent, or if they are available, they are at prices double what they would cost if sent as specific goods. We ask you to inform us, may Allah reward you with good, of what you see regarding this.
A : If the matter is as described, there is no harm in doing so, taking into consideration the benefit of those who are entitled to it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
