Initiative and not delaying distribution when entrusted with distributing money to the poor

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 20452 )
Q1: A benefactor gave me a sum of money to distribute to the poor and the needy. I distributed it according to his will, but a portion remained. Out of my desire to continue the benefit for the poor and my fear that such a sum might not be available in the future, I invested the remaining portion. Within a year, the profit became double the capital. The goal was to spend the profits on good causes, because the capital is from general charity, not zakah. Is my action in this regard appropriate? Is it permissible for me to take a certain percentage of the profit in return for my work on this blessed project, if Allah wills? And is it also permissible to trade with zakah and spend its profits on the eight categories of zakah?

A1: It is obligatory for you to hasten to distribute the charity you were entrusted with to its rightful recipients. It is not permissible for you to delay the distribution or to trade with it. What you did was a mistake, and you must repent from it, hasten to distribute the remaining amount and the profits obtained from trading with it, and do not return to such an action. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
