Q: We would like to know the amount of the nisab in dollars ?
A: The amount of the nisab for zakah in dollars and other paper currencies is the value equivalent to twenty mithqals of gold or one hundred and forty mithqals of silver at the time when zakah becomes obligatory upon you in dollars and similar currencies. This is to be determined by whichever of the two nisabs is more beneficial to the poor, given that their prices vary according to time and place. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
