The Nisab of Zakah on Wealth

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We ask for information regarding zakah on wealth, and if possible, please provide it in Egyptian pounds?

Answer:
Zakah on wealth is one-quarter of a tenth in gold and silver, and in whatever serves as their equivalent in currency. The obligatory amount in the two currencies—gold and silver—is one-quarter of a tenth. The nisab in silver is one hundred and forty mithqals, and in gold it is twenty mithqals, and whatever serves as the equivalent of these mithqals. This is the minimum nisab. It is obligatory for one who has wealth that reaches the nisab to pay out one-quarter of a tenth, whether it is Egyptian pounds, British pounds, dollars, Saudi riyals, or anything else. The obligatory amount is one-quarter of a tenth; in one hundred, it is two and a half; in two hundred, it is five; in one thousand, it is twenty-five. This is the obligatory zakah... and so on, as the wealth increases, the zakah increases, and it is one-quarter of a tenth, meaning: one share out of forty. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
