Fatwa No. ( 7723 )
Q: We find that some companies have Islamic names, such as (Islamic Insurance Company) and others, and we find that these companies provide insurance for life, body, car, and property. We are attaching a copy of these claims to this message. Is it permissible for us to register in these insurances, or is it not permissible? There is another type of insurance: when a Muslim is in a land of disbelief and is ill, they do not treat him at all, and he does not have prior health insurance; therefore, we direct to you the following: Is it permissible for a Muslim in a land of disbelief to insure himself against illness and against the loss of money and property? What is the ruling of Islam regarding insurance in the lands of Islam and Muslims for the self, body
and money, property, and car?
A: A - It is not permissible for a Muslim to insure himself against illness, whether he is in Islamic lands or in the lands of disbelievers; because of the excessive uncertainty and gambling involved in it. B - It is not permissible for a Muslim to insure the self or the limbs of the body, in whole or in part, or the money or property or car or the like, whether that is in the lands of Islam or the lands of disbelievers; because that is of the types of commercial insurance, and it is forbidden because it contains excessive uncertainty and gambling.
