The traveler begins his fast in the country from which he departed and ends it in the country to which he arrived

Fatwa No. ( 5084 )
Q: Since the waiting period is at most thirty days, is he required to complete the fast he began in Saudi Arabia according to the sighting of Shawwal in the Kingdom only, even after arriving in India , or should he continue fasting with the Muslims there, thereby fasting the thirty-first and thirty-second days? If he breaks his fast during the journey for the difference in dates, does he have to make up the fast after 'Id al-Fitr, or is it sufficient for him to fast the duration of this difference with the Muslims in India after his arrival? Please issue a ruling based on what Allah has taught you, and may Allah reward you with good and grant you health and well-being.
A: The criterion for beginning the fast is the country from which one departed, and for ending it, the country to which one arrived. If the total number of days he fasted is twenty-eight, he must make up one day, because the lunar month cannot be less than twenty-nine days. If he completed fasting thirty days in the country he traveled to, and the people of that country still have one day of fasting remaining, for example, he must fast with them until they break their fast on the day of 'Id and pray with them on the day of 'Id. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
