Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of fatwa number ( 10344 )
Q1: Zakah of wealth : 1 - The nisab of gold and silver is considered, and their values are not equal or fixed at present. Is the nisab determined according to the level of gold and silver? The scholars differed on whether silver and gold are determined by paper currency. What is the closest and most beneficial position for determining the nisab? 2 - What is the group present in Sri Lanka from the eight categories mentioned in the Noble Qur'an? 3 - Is the zakah of wealth distributed equally among the categories, for example, if there are 6 categories with 600 rupees? Is this divided equally among the categories to be 100 rupees for each category? 4 - Is it permissible to distribute a larger share to one category over another, for example, if the poor and needy are numerous? Is it possible to distribute the larger share to them and the smaller share to the others? 5 - Or is it obligatory to pay the amount to all groups? 6 - Or is it distributed to some groups and the other groups are left out according to the amount available for distribution? 7 - Is it obligatory to distribute the zakah to at least three people in each group? 8 - Or do we suffice with giving a sufficient amount to one person from the group, so that he can spend the amount in a beneficial transaction such as trade or the like? 9 - Is it permissible to buy land or build a house or give it for trade or spend it on professional tools? 10 - Is it permissible to give zakah to educational institutions and mosques?
A: 1 - The nisab of gold is fixed and its amount is: twenty mithqals, and the nisab of silver is two hundred dirhams, and the nisab of silver is equivalent to: fifty-six Saudi riyals in silver. 2 - The correct of the scholars' opinions is: that it is not obligatory to include the eight categories mentioned in the verse on the recipients of alms in Surat al-Tawbah. It is permissible to pay zakah to some of the eight categories. The eight categories were mentioned in the verse to clarify the channels of distribution, not to obligate including them all. 3 - The poor or needy person is given what suffices for his expenses for a year or to complete the expenses of the year, and so it is with the rest of the categories. The one working on it is given his wage, and those whose hearts are to be reconciled are given what achieves the purpose and brings about reconciliation, and the one in bondage is given what suffices to pay to the one who contracted with him to free his neck, and the mujahideen in the path of Allah are given what achieves the purpose, and the traveler is given what gets him to his country. 4 - It is not permissible to spend zakah on those not mentioned in the Noble verse, so it is not spent on any of the purposes mentioned in the question, such as building
a dwelling or buying land or trading with it or the like. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
