Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q201: The questioner asks: Is it permissible to spend zakah on calling people to Allah, by allocating it to preachers and students of knowledge?
A201: Allah the Exalted has taken charge of distributing zakah and has specified its recipients. It is not permissible to deviate from those whom Allah has specified in His saying, the Exalted and Majestic:[At-Tawbah 9:60] . Therefore, zakah must not be distributed to anyone other than these eight categories. Calling people to Allah is funded from the public treasury or from voluntary charitable donations.
A201: Allah the Exalted has taken charge of distributing zakah and has specified its recipients. It is not permissible to deviate from those whom Allah has specified in His saying, the Exalted and Majestic:
Zakah expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect [zakah] and for bringing hearts together [for Islam] and for freeing captives [or slaves] and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah and for the [stranded] traveler - an obligation [imposed] by Allah. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.
