Giving zakah to brothers from the father
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 13662 )
Q: My father (may Allah have mercy on him) passed away and left behind a family consisting of seven
people with another woman, not my mother, and they have no provider other than me, after Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). Is it permissible to consider what I spend from my personal wealth on them as the lawful zakah of that wealth? I am married and I also support a family. Second: I have an older brother who is married to two wives and has many children, and he can barely provide for them and often asks me for help. Is it permissible to consider what I send him as the lawful zakah?
A: There is no harm in giving zakah to your brothers from the father, both male and female, in the future, if they are poor and do not have money that makes them independent of zakah. Likewise, it is permissible for you to give zakah in the future to your older brother if he is poor and does not have money or earnings that make him independent of zakah, due to the generality of the verse on alms in the saying of Allah the Exalted:[At-Tawbah 9:60] And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

Zakah expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect [zakah] and for bringing hearts together [for Islam] and for freeing captives [or slaves] and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah and for the [stranded] traveler - an obligation [imposed] by Allah. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.
