Fatwa number ( 1837 )
Q: In the case of condolence, when delegations from various tribes come from different villages to console the bereaved, they bring with them a mudd of coffee, or two kilos of cardamom, depending on the closeness of the bereaved to the condolence-giver. They aim to help the bereaved, but they do so openly and present it in the gathering in front of the attendees. They used to come to the bereaved in the past with sums of money for the purpose of compensation for the deceased, but that has disappeared, thanks to Allah and then thanks to the people of knowledge. Coffee and cardamom have appeared, so we do not know what the ruling is on them? Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you.
Cardamom, depending on how close the bereaved person is to the one offering condolences, is intended to help the bereaved. However, they do this openly and present it in the gathering in front of the attendees. In the past, they used to come to the bereaved with sums of money with the intention of compensation for the deceased, but this practice has disappeared, thanks to Allah and then thanks to the scholars. Coffee and cardamom have appeared, so we do not know what the ruling on them is? Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you.
A: It is established from Abdullah ibn Ja'far that he said: This hadith and what is similar to it regarding consoling the family of the deceased indicates the prescription of comforting and consoling the bereaved with food prepared for them and served while they are occupied with the calamity, and they are comforted by it and by other means of consolation, such as someone bringing food or coffee with him, or offering them concessions regarding debts owed to them by their deceased relative, or regarding their share in inheritance with them, and the like of these good matters commanded in the saying of Allah, the Exalted and Majestic: [Al-Hajj 22:77]
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
