The twelfth question of the fatwa number ( 3323 )
Q12: What is the ruling on visiting graves ? Is it permissible or not?
A12: Visiting graves is a recommended practice (sunnah) for men, not for women, according to the correct opinion of the scholars. It is for admonition, taking a lesson, remembering death, and supplicating for the deceased with forgiveness and mercy, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did and taught his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). It is not for calling upon the deceased for aid, seeking blessing from them, or asking them for intercession. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan Ibn Majah 1569Sahih (Darussalam) narrated by Muslim in his Sahih. However, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught his Companions that when they visit graves, they should say: Sunan Ibn Majah 1547Sahih (Darussalam), and another wording is: Sunan an-Nasa'i 2037Sahih (Darussalam). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

زوروا القبور فإنها تذكركم الآخرةAs-salamu ‘alaykum ahlad-diyar minal-mu’minina wal- muslimin, wa inna insha’ Allah bikum lahiqun, nas’alul-laha lana wa lakumul-‘afiyah (Peace be upon you, O inhabitants of the abodes, believers and Muslims, and we will join you soon if Allah wills. We ask Allah for well-being for us and for you).
السلام عليكم أهل الديار من المؤمنين والمسلمين، وإنا إن شاء الله بكم لاحقون، نسأل الله لنا ولكم العافيةMay Allah have mercy upon those who have gone on ahead of us and those who come later on
يرحم الله المستقدمين منا والمستأخرين
