Raising the Voice in Collective Takbir

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 1707 )
Q1: What is the ruling on raising the voice in collective takbir while following the funeral procession and walking with it to the cemetery?
A1: The guidance of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when following a funeral was that no voice was heard from him in takbir, recitation, or the like. And we do not know that he ordered collective takbir. Rather, it is narrated from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he
He prohibited following the dead with a voice or fireنهى أن يتبع الميت بصوت أو نار
, narrated by Abu Dawud . And Qays ibn 'Abbad , who was one of the great Tabi'un from the companions of 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), said: They used to recommend lowering the voice at funerals, during dhikr, and in battle. And Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: It is not recommended to raise the voice with the funeral, neither with recitation, nor dhikr, nor anything else. This is the madhhab of the four Imams, and it is what is transmitted from the Salaf, from the Companions and the Tabi'un, and I do not know of anyone who opposed it. He also said: And the people of knowledge of hadith and athar agreed that this was not
practiced in the era of the preferred generations. And by this it becomes clear to you that raising the voice in takbir with funerals is a blameworthy religious innovation, and so is anything similar to it, such as their saying: (Tawhid) or (Remember Allah), or reciting some of the poems like al-Burda. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
