The first question of Fatwa number ( 11095 )
Q1: I havea married sister who has been afflicted with a disease, which is dizziness and fainting when she comes to pray while standing. She loves prayer, so is it permissible for her to pray while sittingO His Eminence the Shaykh?
A1: Standing in the obligatory prayer is a pillar of it, but if your sister is unable to stand, she prays while sitting; for Allah the Exalted said:[At-Taghabun 64:16] and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: As for the voluntary prayer, there is no blame on her for performing it while sitting, even if she is able to stand, but the one who leaves off standing while having the ability receives half the reward in the voluntary prayer.
