Praying While Sitting Due to an Excuse

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question from Fatwa No. ( 20109 )
Q3: Regarding prayer after my illness, I am unable to stand for a long period, so is it permissible for me to pray while sitting ? I am 26 years old, and when I stand in the row during congregational prayer, a man who is over sixty stands next to me, yet he prays standing. So how do I pray while sitting, and what will this man standing next to me say about me? What should I do regarding the tarawih prayer and standing in night prayer? Is it permissible for a sick person to stand in night prayer, perform voluntary prayers, and offer voluntary prayers to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) while he is sick and unable to stand? I ask your eminence to reassure me on this matter, and I ask you to pray for my recovery.
A3 : If you are unable to stand in the obligatory prayer, or if it causes you pain in your body, there is no blame on you for praying while sitting; based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[At-Taghabun 64:16]
, and the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to some of his Companions:
offer prayer in standing condition; if you are unable to do so, then in sitting condition: if you are then at your sideصل قائمًا فإن لم تستطع فقاعدًا، فإن لم تستطع فعلى جنب
Sunan Abi Dawud 952Sahih (Al-Albani)
narrated by al-Bukhari .
As for voluntary prayer, the matter is broad, and standing is not obligatory in it even if a person is able to stand, but standing is better. The sick person is like the healthy ones; it is recommended for him to perform from the prayers and voluntary acts of worship what he is able to do. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
