Making up the prayers of one who is artificially unconscious
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of fatwa number ( 8597 )
Q2: It is known in medical law as a matter of necessity that a patient undergoing a surgical operation must be put under anesthesia before the procedure is performed. It is possible that during that period, he may miss some of the prayer times while medically unconscious. Is his ruling in this case the same as that of a naturally unconscious person, such that he only makes up the prayers for which he regained consciousness during their time, or not?
A2: It is obligatory for him to make up the missed prayers, just as it is obligatory for a sleeping person. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
