Wiping over the leather socks

Machine translationRead the Arabic original

Fatwa No. ( 1946 ) Q: What is the ruling on wiping over leather socks ? Is it permissible or not? A: Praise be to Allah alone, and blessings and peace be upon His Messenger, his family, and his Companions. After that: There is scholarly disagreement among the jurists regarding wiping over leather socks in ablution: some forbade it, while others permitted it. The correct view is that it is permissible if they are worn while in a state of ritual purity, if they cover the feet and the ankles, for a period of one day and one night for a resident and three days for a traveler, among other conditions for wiping indicated by the authentic hadiths. This is based on what is established from al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: توضأ النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ومسح على الجوربين والنعلين The Prophet performed Wudu' and wiped over his socks and sandals.Jami` at-Tirmidhi 99Da'if (Darussalam) It was narrated by Ahmad and Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah, and al-Tirmidhi said: It is a good, authentic hadith. Many of the Companions acted upon this. Abu Dawud said:
(And those who wiped over the leather socks were: 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, al-Bara' ibn 'Azib, Anas ibn Malik, Abu Umamah, Sahl ibn Sa'd, and 'Amr ibn Harith , and this was also narrated from 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, and Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them). This is the opinion of a group of scholars. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
