The obligation to spread water over all the limbs in the ablution
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of fatwa number ( 7123 )
Q 1: I heard one of the scholars say: that increasing in the ablution is not permissible, for example, going beyond the two elbows in the ablution or increasing the water beyond three handfuls is also not permissible, which has left me in confusion about that.
A 1: Praise be to Allah alone, and blessings and peace be upon His Messenger, his family, and his Companions. As for what follows: The ablution is an act of worship, and acts of worship are based on divine legislation and are not known except from the Shari'ah. The Muslim must act according to what is established by the Shari'ah. Whoever increases beyond what is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the number of washings or wipes for each of the limbs of the ablution, or exceeds the limit that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) specified in washing a limb or wiping a limb, has done wrong by his excess and increase over what Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) legislated. His ablution is valid, but the perfection of his ablution lies in leaving off the increase over what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) specified in the ablution. It is obligatory for the one performing ablution to spread the water over the entire limb that is obligatory to wash. If one handful is not sufficient, he increases until the washing of the entire limb is completed.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
