The Prescribedness of Washing the Limbs of Wudu Three Times
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of the fatwa number ( 5612 )
Q 3: There has been much debate among people regarding wudu. Some say that when a person intends to perform wudu, he joins his two hands together and washes them three times. Others say that the one performing wudu separates his hands and washes each one three times, starting from the fingers to the elbows. I would like to know which of the two is stronger?
A 3: Praise be to Allah alone, and may peace and blessings be upon His Messenger, his family, and his Companions... After that: The one performing wudu washes his two hands together at the beginning of wudu three times, and they are from the joint of the hand on the forearm to the tips of the fingers. As for washing the hands to the elbows after washing the face in wudu, he washes the right hand
to its elbow three times, and he washes the left hand likewise from the tips of its fingers to its elbow three times, each one on its own. And if he is content with a single washing for each of them, it suffices him; because that is the obligatory part, and the second and third washings for both are a recommended practice. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
