The first question of Fatwa No. ( 3548 )
Q1: Allah the Exalted says:[At-Tawbah 9:113] . The apparent meaning of the previous verse forbids seeking forgiveness for polytheists, even if they are close relatives. Many of us, the Bedouins of the desert, have parents and relatives who have become accustomed to slaughtering animals at graves, seeking nearness to Allah through the people buried there, offering vows, and seeking help through the intercession of the people of the graves to relieve distress and heal the sick. They died in that state, and no one reached them who would explain to them the meaning of tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and the meaning of "La ilaha illa Allah" (There is no god but Allah). No one reached them to teach them that vows and supplication are acts of worship that are not valid to be directed to anyone but Allah alone. Is it permissible to walk in their funerals, pray over them, make supplication and seek forgiveness for them, perform Hajj on their behalf, and give charity on their behalf?
A1: One who dies in the state you described, it is not permissible to walk in his funeral, nor to pray over him, nor to make supplication or seek forgiveness for him, nor to perform Hajj on his behalf, nor to give charity on his behalf; because the deeds you mentioned are acts of shirk (associating partners with Allah). And Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, said in the previous verse:
[At-Tawbah 9:113] , and it is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: . They are not excused by what is said about them: that no one came to them to clarify that these mentioned matters they commit are shirk; because the evidence for them in the Noble Qur'an is clear, and the people of knowledge are present among them, so they are able to ask about the shirk they are upon, but they turned away and were content with what they are upon. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
Q1: Allah the Exalted says:
It is not for the Prophet and those who have believed to ask forgiveness for the polytheists, even if they were relatives, after it has become clear to them that they are companions of Hellfire.
