The first, third, and eighth questions from Fatwa number ( 7408 )
Q1: Many people say: Instructing the deceased is forbidden; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not do it. Is this correct?
A1: Yes, instructing the deceased after burial is a religious innovation; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not do it, nor did his Rightly Guided Caliphs, nor the rest of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), and the narrations regarding this are not authentic. The only prescribed instruction is instructing the dying person before his death with the word of tawhid (the oneness of Allah): (There is no god but Allah); due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan Ibn Majah 1444Sahih (Darussalam) It was narrated by Muslim in his Sahih, and the intended meaning of "the dead" here is the dying, as the scholars clarified in their explanation of this hadith.
Q3: Is it permissible to accompany the funeral procession with vocalization, such as the mourners saying: "Sing his praises," or "Remember Allah," or the like?
A3: It is not permissible, rather it is a religious innovation; because there is no evidence from the Book or the Sunnah indicating it, and due to his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih Muslim 1718b . It was narrated by Muslim in his Sahih.
Q8: Many people, when they walk to bury the deceased, once they have finished burying him, cut the trees on the graves, and some of them tread on the graves with their feet, and some of them sit on them. Is this permissible, and what is their ruling with Allah?
A8: It is not permissible to tread on graves, nor to sit on them; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited that, and because of the disrespect it entails. One who does it commits a sin, and it should be disapproved of and he should be advised. As for cutting the trees, there is nothing wrong with it if there is a need for it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
