Establishing personal relationships with disbelievers for the sake of da'wah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fifth question of Fatwa No. ( 4214 )
Q5: Da'wah to Islam requires establishing personal relationships with disbelievers; first, to remove alienation and prepare the ground for da'wah. So, if one of them invites me
to food or drink that is not from the forbidden, such as cheese, fish, and tea, is it permissible for me to consume it? If there is a possibility that the vessels were used previously to consume pork and khamr, even though they were washed with water and soap?

A5: Relationships between people are of different types. If the relationship is one of affection, love, and brotherhood from a Muslim to a disbeliever, it is forbidden, and it may amount to disbelief. Allah the Exalted said:
You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred. Those - He has decreed within their hearts faith and supported them with spirit from Him. And We will admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him - those are the party of Allah. Unquestionably, the party of Allah - they are the successful.
[Al-Mujadila 58:22]
and the verses and hadiths in the same meaning. However, if the relationship is one of buying and selling, or accepting an invitation to lawful food, or accepting a permissible gift, for example, without any effect on the Muslim, then it is permissible. Consuming the lawful food and drink that a disbeliever presents to a Muslim is permissible, even if it is served in a vessel that was previously used for khamr or for consuming pork or the like, provided that it was washed after being used for forbidden or impure things until
that was completely removed from it. And if doing so helps in conveying the da'wah to Islam, that is more conducive to response and connection, and more hopeful for reward and recompense. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
