Fatwa number ( 7806 )
Q: A hadith regarding the teacher of the Qur'an and his student, which means: One of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) wore a new garment, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: Where did you get this from? He said: So-and-so, whose son I taught the Qur'an, gave it to me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: Do you want to meet Allah with a rope of fire around your neck? Return it to him, so he returned it to him. What is the authenticity of this hadith and acting upon it? Is it permissible for a teacher of the Qur'an to accept a gift? And if
the giver is among those who are learning the Qur'an, is it valid for his intention to be that the gift is out of love for Allah alone?
A: First: It is permissible for a teacher of the Qur'an to accept a gift from those who learn the Qur'an from him and from others, whether the giver's intention is for the sake of Allah and love of knowledge in Allah, or with the intention of honoring him for teaching him. Second: We do not know a basis for the hadith you referred to, and what is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) contradicts it, namely his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih al-Bukhari 5737 And what came in the hadith of the woman who offered herself to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married her to a man from the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) with what he had of the Qur'an, and he said: Sunan Abi Dawud 2111Sahih (Al-Albani) And in a narration: .
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
