The Woman's Adhan
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 4522 )
Q1: Is it permissible for a woman to call the adhan, and is her voice considered 'awrah (a part of the body that must be covered) or not?
A1: First : It is not obligatory for a woman to call the adhan, according to the correct opinion of the scholars; because this has not been established as being delegated to her, nor was she entrusted with it during the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), nor during the time of the Rightly Guided Caliphs (may Allah be pleased with them). Second: A woman's voice is not 'awrah (a part of the body that must be covered) in an absolute sense, for the women used to complain to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and ask him about matters of Islam, and they did so with the Rightly Guided Caliphs (may Allah be pleased with them) and the rulers after them, and they would greet non-relatives and return the greeting, and no one from the leaders of Islam objected to this. However, it is not permissible for her to be affected in her speech or to be soft in her saying; due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Ahzab 33:32] ; because that incites men toward her and becomes a fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) for them, as indicated by the mentioned verse.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.

O wives of the Prophet, you are not like anyone among women. If you fear Allah, then do not be soft in speech [to men], lest he in whose heart is disease should covet, but speak with appropriate speech.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
