Vocalizing the Intention

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fifth question of the fatwa number ( 5166 )
Q5: Is it possible to verbalize the intention, or is it better to keep it secret?
A5: The intention is a form of worship, and acts of worship are based on what has been specified by the Lawgiver. Its place is the heart, and verbalizing it is a religious innovation; because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not verbalize it, nor did his successors and his Companions after him. It is established in the two Sahihs and others that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the Bedouin who performed his prayer poorly:
When you stand for Prayer say Takbir and then recite from the Holy Qur'an (of what you know by heart)إذا قمت إلى الصلاة فكبر ثم اقرأ ما تيسر معك من القرآن
Sahih al-Bukhari 757
, and in the Sunan it is reported from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
The key to prayer is purification; its beginning is takbir and its end is taslim.مفتاح الصلاة الطهور، وتحريمها التكبير، وتحليلها التسليم
Sunan Abi Dawud 61Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani)
, and in (Sahih Muslim) it is reported from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her),
That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to begin the prayer with the takbir, and the recitation with "All praise is to Allah, Lord of the worlds"أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كان يفتتح الصلاة بالتكبير، والقراءة بالحمد لله رب العالمين
Whoever claims that verbalizing it is permissible, his statement is refuted; because of his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying:
'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected.من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718a
agreed upon as authentic, and in a narration by Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him):
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.من عمل عملاً ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718b
. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
