Q: I reached puberty when I was approximately fourteen years old, and two years later—meaning when I was approximately sixteen years old—I performed the obligatory Hajj. More than two years had passed since I reached puberty, and I was ignorant of the difference between pre-seminal fluid and semen, although I knew that semen necessitates the full ritual bath, while pre-seminal fluid is sufficient for cleaning oneself after relieving oneself and performing the ablution, after which I would go and pray. Sometimes the pre-seminal fluid would come out, and I would think it was semen, so I would perform the full ritual bath for its emergence. During the obligatory Hajj, before the circumambulation of farewell, my semen came out due to looking and thinking. I was confused and did not know whether it was semen that necessitates the full ritual bath, or pre-seminal fluid for which cleaning oneself and the ablution are sufficient. Then I said to myself: If I were at home, I would perform the full ritual bath as a precaution, but perhaps it is pre-seminal fluid; because, as I hear, it is what comes out when desire or thinking intensifies. So I was content with cleaning myself and performing the ablution, and then I performed the circumambulation of farewell. After that, I learned the difference between them. The question is: 1 - What is the ruling on this Hajj of mine, knowing that it was the obligatory Hajj, and I have performed Hajj again after it, but with the intention of a voluntary Hajj? Likewise, I performed a circumambulation in months other than the months of Hajj, intending it to be the circumambulation of farewell, which is the pillar for which I was not in a state of ritual purity when I performed it. And I fed six poor people as expiation for the emergence of semen during Hajj. And what is obligatory upon me? 2 - What is the ruling on my prayers during that period? Knowing that I was strictly observant
of the prayer, with complete observance, and praise and grace belong to Allah. And what is obligatory upon me? 3 - What is the ruling on the 'Umrah that I performed during that period, since during that period I performed 'Umrah three or four times? And what is obligatory upon me? May Allah the Exalted preserve you and grant you success in what is correct.
A: There is no making up of anything upon you, neither regarding Hajj, nor 'Umrah, nor prayer; because you did not become certain that the state of ritual impurity that affected you was semen when you performed those obligations, and the original state is purity and the validity of the act of worship. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
