The first question of fatwa number ( 2882 ):
Q1: Some people in our country translate the Qur'an into other languages and hold them without performing wudu', is this action of theirs valid or not? And is it possible to translate the Qur'an into another language?
A1: Yes, it is permissible to translate the meanings of the Qur'an into a language other than Arabic, just as it is permissible to explain its meanings in Arabic. This serves to clarify the meaning that the translator understood from the Qur'an, and it is not called the Qur'an. Accordingly, it is permissible for a person to touch a translation of the meanings of the Qur'an in a language other than Arabic, or its explanation in Arabic, while not in a state of wudu'. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
