The second and third questions of Fatwa No. ( 1711 ):
Q2: A Muslim testifies that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and says when he stands up or sits down: “O Messenger of Allah,” or: “O Abu al-Qasim,” or: “O Shaykh 'Abd al-Qadir ,” and the like of seeking help from them. What is the ruling?
A2: Calling a human being, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) or anyone else
such as 'Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani or Ahmad al-Tijani when standing up or sitting down, and seeking their help in that or the like of it to bring benefit or ward off harm, is a type of major shirk (associating partners with Allah) that was prevalent in the early pre-Islamic age of ignorance. Allah sent His messengers, peace and blessings be upon them, to put an end to it, save people from it, and guide them to the oneness of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) and singling Him out for worship and supplication. This is because seeking help in matters beyond ordinary causes is only done through Allah the Exalted, for it is an act of worship. Whoever directs it to other than Him is a mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah). Allah guided His servants to this and taught them to say:
It is You we worship and You we ask for help.
[Al-Fatihah 1:5]
And He said:
And [He revealed] that the masjids are for Allah, so do not invoke with Allah anyone.
[Al-Jinn 72:18]
He made it clear to them that He alone is in control of warding off and removing harm, bestowing blessings, and showering goodness upon His servants, and preserving that for them. No one can prevent what He has given, no one can give what He has withheld, and no one can turn back what He has decreed, and He is capable of all things. Allah the Exalted said:
(106) And do not invoke besides Allah that which neither benefits you nor harms you, for if you did, then indeed you would be of the wrongdoers.'" (107) And if Allah should touch you with adversity, there is no remover of it except Him; and if He intends for you good, then there is no repeller of His bounty. He causes it to reach whom He wills of His servants. And He is the Forgiving, the Mercifulوَلاَ تَدْعُ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ مَا لاَ يَنْفَعُكَ وَلاَ يَضُرُّكَ فَإِنْ فَعَلْتَ فَإِنَّكَ إِذًا مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ (106) وَإِنْ يَمْسَسْكَ اللَّهُ بِضُرٍّ فَلا كَاشِفَ لَهُ إِلا هُوَ وَإِنْ يُرِدْكَ بِخَيْرٍ فَلا رَادَّ لِفَضْلِهِ يُصِيبُ بِهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ وَهُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ
[Yunus 10:106-107]
And He the Exalted said:
That is Allah, your Lord; to Him belongs sovereignty. And those whom you invoke other than Him do not possess [as much as] the membrane of a date seed. (14) If you invoke them, they do not hear your supplication; and if they heard, they would not respond to you. And on the Day of Resurrection they will deny your association. And none can inform you like [one] Acquainted [with all matters].
[Fatir 35:13-14]

And He said:
(5) And who is more astray than he who invokes besides Allah those who will not respond to him until the Day of Resurrection, and they, of their invocation, are unaware. (6) And when the people are gathered [that Day], they [who were invoked] will be enemies to them, and they will be deniers of their worship.
[Al-Ahqaf 46:5-6]
And He said:
And whoever invokes besides Allah another deity for which he has no proof - then his account is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed.
[Al-Mu'minun 23:117]
Thus, the Exalted named the supplication to other than Him in these verses as kufr (disbelief) and shirk (associating partners with Allah) with Him, and He informed that no one is more misguided than one who supplicates to other than Him (Glorified and Exalted is He). It is established
That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): “If you ask, ask Allah, and if you seek help, seek help from Allah.”
, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Supplication is worship
